The Biden administration on Thursday announced new sanctions targeting Iran's drone program for its recent attack on Israel. The sanctions target 16 individuals and two entities involved in Tehran's drone production. Executives at an Iranian-based company that manufactured engines used in the attack are among the individuals sanctioned. All of the sanctioned individuals' property in the United States will be frozen. Five companies that provide materials to Khuzestan Steel Company, one of Iran's largest steel producers, were also sanctioned.

DUBAI, Sept 29 (Reuters) - Order has been restored at a prison in southwest Iran, the state news agency IRNA reported on Friday, after prisoners reportedly started a fire to protest against a fellow inmate's death sentence and shots were heard. "The prison situation was briefly unsettled after a number of prisoners provoked clashes, but calm was restored immediately after the presence of prison officers and the facility returned to normal," IRNA reported, citing the state prisons administration. Iran, which carries out the world's highest number of executions after China, has often faced criticism by rights groups. Iran blames the high number of executions on heavy drug trafficking through the country from neighbouring Afghanistan, the world's main opium producer. DUBAI, Dec 17 (Reuters) - Groups of oil workers held protests in southern Iran on Saturday, demanding higher wages and retirement bonuses, according to videos and reports posted on social media. There was no immediate comment from Iran's oil ministry about the reported oil worker protests. The activist HRANA news agency said a group of oil workers protested outside the Pars Oil and Gas Company in Asaluyeh in the southern province of Bushehr on the Gulf. HRANA and other social media carried videos and photographs of similar protests by oil workers in areas including Ahvaz, capital of the oil-rich Khuzestan province, Gachsaran and Mahshahr. Four decades ago, a combination of mass protests and strikes by oil workers and bazaar merchants helped sweep Iran's Shi'ite Muslim clergy to power.
